Jenna Rose North
b.Burbank, CA 1976
North’s work investigates natural/virtual phenomenon as seen through energy fields of pattern and chaos. Her process in painting simulates extreme weather by heating/burning, flooding and painting directly on water. North collaborated with Meteorologists and artists to curate two shows (The Weather Reconnaissance at the Garage Biennale and The Painters Almanac at the at SFAI) that both dealt with ionosphere manipulation, global warming, and storms as a metaphor for artistic practice. Other curatorial projects were in Miami, Florida, where she co-curated an Art Now fair exhibit for Micaela Gallery, Relative Abstraction at SFAI, and as the Visual Arts Chair, North organized several local exhibitions through the Arts Council of Dickinson County, Kansas.
North currently has a studio at the Headlands Center for the Arts, and is included in the upcoming show there called “Breaking Ranks”. She received an MFA on a full tuition merit fellowship from the San Francisco Art Institute. Recent awards include an upcoming residency and solo show at the National Art Gallery in Male, Maldives where she will complete a rooftop mural/garden, creating the illusion of the ocean washing over a coastal building, a Murphy and Cadogan fellowship, a residency at Root Division and a two person benefit show for the DeYoung and Legion of Honor Museums. Showing nationally at both the Art Now and Bridge fairs in Miami Beach, and NY, NY, and represented by Micaela Gallery and SFMOMA Artist Gallery, with solo shows at the TransAmerica Pyramid in San Francisco, Penn State University, San Mateo City Hall, Micaela Gallery and 50 Fremont in San Francisco.
